Gearoid has competed at the highest level of international competition since 1994 when he first competed for Ireland at the World Junior Championships in Munich.
Since then, he has collected Gold at the World Championships in 2001 with pairs partner Tony O Connor and Gold at the World U-23 Championships in the single in 1996.
He won bronze with Sam Lynch in the 2003 World Championships in Milan and also bronze in 1999 in the lightweight quad with team mates Neal Byrne, James Lyndsay-Fynn and Noel Monahan in St. Catherines, Canada.
In addition to this, he has won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the World Cup series, a season long competition taking in competitions around the globe. He was Australian Champion in 2001 in the lightweight single, double and quad, and is a multiple Irish Championship winner since 1994.
